Are Mk playing better away from home after beating Swindon 2-1 away on Saturday? Tonight, everybody was looking for better home play to close the widening gap with Bromley in top place. If MK won tonight they would be only one point behind with a chance to go top if they beat Barnet this Saturday at home. With Bromley to play at home before the close of the season, it was important tonight that Mk started to build some fear by winning the next two matches convincingly.

Colchester away end with drummer

MK had most of the play in the first thirty minutes with a shot by Gilbey which would have gone in, had not the ball hit the crossbar.

An MK corner followed, but nothing came of it. In the 19th, minute Colchester were given their second yellow card following a nasty foul on Jack Saunders which led to a lot of booing from the MK home end and a medic being brought on. With the player ok, MK took revenge by getting another close shot on goal. By the end of the second quarter, Mk had had more of the play but had failed to take the lead The final quarter was all about MK trying to find a way to finally break Colchester down.

A MK midfield error came in the 33rd and Colchester were dangerously countering in the box and this time got their best chance of the first half at scoring. As the first half reached its closing stages, both sides were playing possession football and looked like they were willing to settle at 0-0 and resuming the struggle second half until Aaron Collins finally settled things and put MK 1-0 up in the 39th minute.

However the winning goal was rather messy with Ben Wiles' header hitting the bar, and Collins managing to luckily find the ball which went in after deflecting off the Colchester goalkeeper.

Colchester got more of the match in the second half but were unable to get an equaliser. Frustration led to more fouling and Colchester by the end of the match had picked up 4 yellow cards to MK's two.

With a 6,200 attendance, the smaller than usual crowd unfortunately witnessed still undynamic play at home. With now 14 matches unbeaten, MK are in a better position to get automatic promotion this season. What they need to do now is to justify where they are with more dynamic play.
