This House would go vegan

112 FOR 84 AGAINST

The Vegan Debate was the final debate of the first 200 years of the Oxford Union making today's debate one of the most significant of all time according to Disha Hedge from St John's college and first proposer of the motion. Throughout the world there are 80 million vegans. It is a thing you do gradualy. You dont go cold turkey with it. She had been a vegetarian for 8 years and a vegan for 4. Hannah Edwards from Lincoln College and President elect for Hiliary Term declared that Vegans should never be allowed to run the Oxford Union. She discredited Joey Carbstrong's claim of having 300 Million pro vegan views on you tube saying that peole on you tube will simply watch any old rubbish. The proposition's main thrust of argument was based around environmentalism, health and ethics. On ethics, the proposition stated that it is incorrect to assue it is ok to et meat becaue animals are less intelligent. 'There are lots of unintelligent humans but we dont go around eating Piers Morgan or Katie Hopkins. Dr Ngwaba argued that eating meat has teken away 50% of the world's trees and is a significant factor in the deforestation and CO2 crisis facing mankind. It takes 39 pounds of plants to be able to eat one pound of meat he argued. Dr Rose from New York's Cornell University counter argued stating to stop eating meat will not save the planet and that the argument it will is far too simplistic. To give just one exmple, what will happen to water supply to nourish the increased demand for arable production? Despite, this Sunday Richard Attenborough announced at the end of one of his latest documentaries that more peole not eating meat would contribute towards saving the planet. The nutriional arguments for veganism are also unsound, Dr Rose continued to argue. Rsearch shows that almond milks lacks vital B12 compared to diary milk.Dr Ngwaba for the proposition put forward alternative research from China which showed a correlation between meat eating and cancer. Joey Carbstrong summed up the proposition case by telling the audience that mankind would eventually look back on crimes against animals the way we look back on slavery, apartheid and the holocaust. Katie Hopkins known for her controversial anti multi-cultural views poo poohed the holocuaust proposition summing up by describing all vegans as short. ' Men who didn't eat meat', she added, had lower testerone levels. What she needed is a massive meat eating man with a massive cock'. The Emergency Debte, 'this house would rather be naughty than Nice was rejected with an overwhelming, 'Ney' cry. The debate was preceeded with some difficulty. Members were barred from bringing in guests to the chamber on account of new members complaining that their space in the hall was being lost to them. Many members with guests were caught short by this with no prior warning being given on the OU website. Newly appointed and inexperineced OU doormen argued that armed police would be present at tonight debte and tomorrow's on account of the Tom Hanks 5pm speaker visit and the Union was simply gving way to police seurity requests.
