Brackley Town today faced one of the biggest matches in their history. A win today against Boston Utd would have put them into the 5th Tier National Vanarama, never achieved before in the club’s history. Ticket allocation was as expected for big matches a bit problematic Boston Utd were allocated 900 tickets with the remainder going to Brackley. As sometimes happens in football , when a club does well and faces potential glory , the supporters get neglected. GMK News saw this with the Swans second cup run and witnessed it some more today in the National League north play off final today. Paid parking at the ground was not available with no prior warning being given to supporters. When confronted about this GMK News witnessed some stewards being abrupt with supporters over this who claimed pre warning was given when it wasn’t . The complacency of some of Brackley Town staff with the smell of success along with the out vocaled support of Boston Utd fans over those of Brackley at the match reflected itself in the final result.

Above a packed and very lively and vocal Boston Utd supporters end.

Brackley came out blazing when in the second min Newton got in the box and looked threatening followed by more attacking play, as Brackley looked for early domination to silence over vocal and confident Boston fans. Boston responded with an end to end attack on goal which looked dangerous. Shit ground no fans Boston continued to chant while Brackley preferred to let the football do the talking with a shot in the 8th min which went in but was disallowed. Boston followed with a close shot closely well saved by the Brackley goalie. The threatening play from Boston kept coming with a free kick saved and tipped over the bar followed by a running header which failed to connect. Brackley got a corner in min 20 followed by their own free kick which nearly got a Newton connection hitting his thigh instead of the boot. The closest scoring moments came in min 28 with a long shot which hit the right hand post followed by an immediate menacing menacing run from Newton. 34th min Brackley opens with a shot from Roberts which went in. However, Boston did not deflate but kept fighting and in the closing mins of the first half, Peter Dwarfe equalised for united.

The start of the second half saw less action on goal from both sides as the Brackley fans started to become a bit more vocal. Was it tiredness which was beinging to decrease the amount of attacking play at the start of the second half? . Disaster struck for Brackley when an incident in the Brackley goal resulted in a penalty which Boston capitalised on giving them an early 2-1 1 lead which BTFC were not able to recover from for the remainder of the match. Increased pressure by Brackley was met with tit for tat counter play the other end which continued into the large amount of extra time given by the regereee due to stoppages and free kicks awarded due to fouling and time wasting. The Boston goal keeper frustrated the home end with his continual unsportsmanlike slow spot clicks. When the whistle went, the celebrating Boston fans ran onto the pitch with a flood of flares which looked like a First World War assault. All Brackley fans could do was watch and reflect on what could have been. 3074 attendance, two thirds of them Brackley yet they were not vocal enough to spur their team onto victory resulting in sixth failed attempt at promotion into the fifth tier. To their credit they clapped off their team during the Boston pitch invasion and no negativity set in. For Brackley, there was always next season and if their consistency continues next year, who knows what they might achieve.
