Today was MK’s big day. Starting at third place in the league two, they had a big chance to move to second if they could beat bottom of the league Harrogate at home. The day was also Community Day for Milton Keynes, commemorated in the below picture with gold tinsel placed on the back of home end seats. Now a city with professional football MK is using football to bring together the community even more together . A win today would put the icing on the cake for them.

Above- a twinkle of gold to celebrate MK’s new city and football club on community day.

Despite the noisey atmosphere the first ten minutes were uneventful for both sides. In the 12th min, Mk got their first corner from a good run into the Harrogate penalty box. The kick was well taken but failed to connect with anybody.

By the second quarter , the zest of the supporters around the ground was not being matched on the pitch as the play continued to be mundane with only a few created opportunities. In attack, there were occasional moments of fumbling again and bunching/following the ball rather than staying in defined positions.

In the 17th min, Hepburn- Murphy tried to set the play on fire with a long and successful dribble into the Harrowgate goal mouth but there was nobody there to finish off and ignite the match for him.

To make matters worse, Harrogate were getting a few opportunities of their own and in the 20th min got their first corner which was followed with one of their players going down injured in the 22nd.

Mk supporters were chanting your s..t and you know you are' to Harrogate players. In the 24th the chant backfired on them as the heavens closed when an Mk defensive error lead to Harrogate getting a shot at goal which put them one nil up.

Instead of a dream, by the start of the final quarter of the first half the match had become a nightmare . However in the 29th, Hepburn Murphy came to the rescue with a second long dribble and run at goal, this time the resulting shot hit the back of the Harrogate and get the equaliser.

Hepburn- Murphy kept up the runs, looking for another MK goal and in the 32nd minute Melish got a good shot at the Harrowgate goal which went just above the crossbar.

The rest of the quarter saw mediocre play from Mk until the final minute when a pass got through to Luke Offord who was able to send everybody into the changing room with MK

In the the second half, things started to look more promising for MK when Aeron Collins in the 51st, scored to make it 3-1.

Chants from the home supporters, 'of clap your hands if you know you are going up' started to be sung now that MK had finally managed to find the killer instinct. Instead of blowing the golden opportunity of today's match, it now looked like they were going to take it and move up to second place in League Two. Cambridge drew today allowing MK to leap frog over them, as they were forced to take place third place on goal difference.

The big question is will MK actually make it to League One by the end of the season? By first half performance standards the answer would be a 'no'. However as the match moved towards the blowing of the final whistle, the answer would be an apprehensive 'yes' as Ben Wiles also found the back of the net in the 62nd to make it a 4-1.

MK supporters were more sure that their team were going to make it to League one as they started to sing their 'runaway to league one song' accompanied to a drumbeat. On top of the win today came more good news of a 23,000 plus record attendance.

ored to make it 3-1. Chants of ‘clap your hands if you know you are going up’, started to be heard from the home end. Had MK finally found the killer instinct? Were they actually going to take the golden opportunity signified by the gold tinsel on the home stand seats and win convincingly today?
