Brackley fail to take the promotion fight to Kings Lynn.

Less supporters showed up for tonight’s midweek game than on Saturday. The tie had the potential to be a great match, as Brackley tried to kerp their promotion dreams alive as they took on second placed King’s Lynne. Like Saturday’s match, the game was slow to get going with chances being created both ends.

Above- Brackley Town FC all set for Christmas and another possible stab at promotion.

Below- Brackley make another attack on the King’s Lynn goal.

In the 31st min, King’s Lynne broke through and got a close shot in, just saved by the Brackley keeper. The longer the match remained at nil nil, the better it started to look for Brackley as they kept the pre Christmas top of the league team at bay. As the match moved closed to half time, things were looking more ok for Brackley as their play was more decisive and aggressive than on Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Chester. With the first half gone, anything looked possible for Brackley after a close header on goal in the 44th min and hopefully more to look forward to in the second half.

The struggle for supremacy continued in part two of the match with more competitive end to end play. In the 52nd min, Kings Lynn got a corner which looked dangerous as it crossed in, followed by an awarded Lynn free kick outside the penalty area which went nowhere when taken. As kings Lynn failed to get more of the match, Brackley’s play started to ascend and with more chances being created as the clock hit the 60th min. Drizzle started to throw another unwanted variable into the equation. Brackley needed the three points and needed to prove a point that they too had the potential to be top of the league. Would they let a bit of drizzle stop them as it turned to continual icy cold rain in the 65th? A Brackley corner looked promising, all Brackley had to do was capitalise on it. However it was short kicked and a weak strike at goal went straight into the King’s Lynn goalie’s hands. Brackley needed passion and belief to turn the 0-0 scorline into a memorable victory. Failing to break the deadlock on the pitch, Lynn substituted in the 69th hoping this would make things better for them. An immediate corner followed which led to a goal mouth scramble which went close to going in. Brackley to their credit kept fighting and didn’t let the step up in gear get to them until the 73rd minute when King’s Lynn finally managed to poke a goal in by Cole Mcfalen and take the lead. In the 77th min, Brackley made a substitution of their own to try and redress the imbalance but it was all to no avail as King’s Lynn held onto the lead and their top of the League position. If Brackley really want promotion after Christmas this season, they need to be more convincing when faced with serious opponents than they were tonight.
