The long for waited match happened today. With three matches in hand and a closer gap narrowed down from 9 to 4 points between top of the league Bedford and second placed MK Irish, a large crowd turned out to see if Irish could redeem their only defeat of this season at the start to Real Bedford. A sluggish start by both sides changed with a close breakthrough into the Irish penalty area and a close shot on goal from Bedford after 5 mins to break the ice.

With 15 mins gone, MK retaliated with a drive into the Bedford end which nearly went rewarded with a close shot on goal. Great local player and ex Wembley dual run player Mo Ahmed was started and stayed on the bench again confirming the rumours he is not getting enough play at Bedford following his transfer from the Swans. End to end play followed in the second quarter of the first half with more saves coming from MkIrish's goalie, Nat Beecher with some predicting his efforts might warrant him the man of the match as a reward for him saving the day. With a trumpet blowing amongst the MK Irish fans and a spring carnival atmosphere, things were looking good as they continued to withhold the Bedford onslaught and create a few more retaliatory chances as the first half further progressed. A very threatening long shot came in the 32nd minute showing that it was not impossible for MK to go ahead. As the half time whistle went the stalemate remained. During half time , one could not help feeling that a Mo Ahmed appearance might help to break the deadlock in the second half. MkIrish started to strengthen as Bedford lost more momentum in the second half. A drummer joined the trumpter amongst the MK Irish fans. Could a similar orchestra symphony be achieved on the pitch by their team? More attempts on goal by both sides continued with Mk Irish slightly edging ahead as the match hit the final quarter. When would a substitution come to possibly break the nil nil stalemate? No but a foul did giving Mk Irish a great chance free kick just outside the box in the 40th minutes minute. An anti climax followed when the kick failed to go in and both sides eventually made a substitution and Mo Ahmed remained on the bench. Frantic play went on the final five mins as both sides desperately tried to get the winner but all to no avail, the match remained 0-0 despite an offside goal by real Bedford in extra time. Mk Irish held Real Bedford showing the impossible is stil possible this season and they not Bedford cold top the league by the close of the season.
