Newport Pagnell FC hoped for a return to cup glory match form against Dunstable in an opening season preliminary round of the FA cup today.

The match started off competitive for the first half with both sides forcing play and creating opportunities at the opposite end. Stalemate remained without any reward of an opening goal until one minute before half time when Dunstable finally broke the deadlock.

A strong half time talk should have spurned on the Swans to come out fighting and make up the defecit early into the second half but there was no evidence to confirm this. The Swans got a golden opportunity when 15 mins in, the referee awarded a drop kick deep in the Dunstable penalty box. When the ball was dropped in the over crowded area nothing came of it as two Swan strikers passed to each other rather than having a shot at goal

with the ball being quickky kicked out of play. Half an hour in, the Swans frustration to get even continued when a goal mouth scramble and header led to the ball going over the bar and hitting the Dunstable net on the outside rather than on its inside. Another spot kick close again to the Dunstable box failed to produce anything in the closing mins of the match.
